A simple thought on sleep that I’ve found helpful

Sleep seems to be a lot more about quality than most people seem to think…. and a lot less about quantity than most people seem to think.

I am happiest sleeping anything over 4 hours while ‘med-free’ and waking ready to tackle whatever I most need to tackle.

Are you someone who can do well on only a few hours sleep, while recognizing there is a minimum for you when choices have to be made to ensure you get that minimum hours per 24 hours?

    Sleep is important to me . I need a basic minimum 2-4 hours in summer and 6-8 hours in winter. I do agree it is the perception of quality that seems to have the strongest correlation with the next days performance.

    I don’t know what to think about sleep; if I have a poor nights sleep I often feel fine the next day. Conversely, a good nights sleep often sees me feeling grotty the following day. I never feel refreshed and raring to go after sleep but I put that down to my age, I’m not a young man anymore. A short nap during the day often helps if I find myself flagging.

    • I know exactly what you mean. Since writing this blog-post on 10th April I have been sleeping for no more than 4 hours in any one go, yet waking feeling nicely refreshed. Last night I slept for over 6 hours in one go, (I think because I’d been to swimming pool) yet have woken up with a stiff neck and generally lacking energy. One explanation could a switch into a repair mode with extra sleep and slower movements… I do not know, but it makes some sense to me and does match with people seeing me as ‘bipolar’ with low sleep requirements and lots of energy, then another time needing more sleep and having less energy.
